Viracon’s architectural glass products are divided into three types:
Viracon Product Descriptions
Viracon glass products have a primary description and a detailed description. We recommend including both descriptions in your glass specification. In addition, these descriptions appear on samples, quotes and product tags.
How to Interpret the Primary Description
The key attributes identified within the primary description are thickness, exterior glass ply and configuration.1"

Configuration
Thickness
The nominal value of each glass ply, spacer and interlayer added together, this is listed as a whole number and fraction in inches or as a whole number in millimeters.Exterior Glass Ply
This describes the exterior glass substrate color and coating.Configuration
This represents the common industry name for the assembly. For example, a single ply of glass is Monolithic, two plies with an interlayer is Laminated and, two plies with a spacer is Insulating. Click on any configuration listed along the left menu to learn more. How to Interpret the Exterior Glass Ply Alphanumeric Code

Coating Family
The family is a label developed by Viracon and typically groups coatings that have something in common. Any coating family with the letter 'E' in the code is a Viracon Low-E Coating and those without an 'E' are Viracon Reflective Coatings.Glass Substrate
A number assigned by Viracon to each glass substrate color. The list of colors and the assigned number can be found under Glass Substrates.
Dash
This is used to separate the nominal light transmittance value from the remainder of the product code.Coating Light Transmittance
The nominal amount of visible light transmitted through the coating. This is not a precise value but, rather, a relative value to assist in comparing and selecting coatings.Additional Considerations
The primary description does not identify individual components such as specific glass ply thicknesses, spacer thickness or inboard glass color. The detailed description is needed to fully describe the glass unit.Within each coating family, there are multiple individual coatings. These individual coatings are identified by the coating family followed by a dash and the nominal light transmittance, i.e. VRE-4322, VE-2M, VNE-63. This identification follows the glass substrate information in the detailed description, i.e. 1/4” Clear with VRE-4322 #2, 1/4” Gray with VRE-4322 #2. Additional information about the available coatings can be found under Coatings.
